Computer Examination is also known as E-Discovery and Computer Forensics.
Simply said, computer examination is a process in which data is taken from a source in such a way as to leave the source unaltered and make a perfect bit for bit "image" or "copy" of that source. Examiners then use the "image" or "copy" to examine. In this regard, if anything is found on the "image" or "copy" then it can be said it was on the source and, since the source has been unaltered, the evidence is admissible in court.
Why use a Computer Examiner?
A Computer Examiner is a highly trained person that understands the process of recovering, processing, reporting and testifying to data. By knowing the processes involved the examiner understands and uses multiple tools for any one task. When choosing an examiner, make sure you ask for a copy of their curriculum vitae.
